16th International Workshop - USA: Part 5: Chocolate, Philly Cheese Steak and Ceaser's Palace

On Friday, after tree days of business game, we had a "Day Off' and went on an excursion. In the morning we went to visit a chocolate factory. Well, at least that's what we thought.... Once we got there it was more like a big garage with a nice chocolate shop attached to it. Reily's Candy was, honestly, quite of a disappointment and we are pretty sure that in Belgium this kind of shop would be closed due to extremely hygienical surcumstances. But wait, it gets better....

Next on the program was Philadelphia! Unfortunately it was a rainy day (and to be honest: there's not much to see in that city either). We went to visit the Liberty Bell, the house where the Declaration of Independence was written and then we went to a typical Philadelphian restaurant and bought ourselves a real Philly Cheese Steak. But wait, it gets even better...

After a very rainy and wet time at Philadelphia we got on the bus once more. This time our destination was Atlantic City! What is this place famous for? First of all: the boardwalk at the seaside. A nice wooden promenade along the beach. Unfortunately it was heavily damaged by the Sandy storm last year as well, although we didn't really notice that... But hey, that's boring information. The one thing that Atlantic City is really famous for is it's Casino's! End of story.

No, that's not true. Together with all the Belgians, and our newest Belgian, our American friend Robert, we went inside two casino's: Bally's and Ceasar's Palace! In the first one, the girls got kicked out (as one of them wasn't +21yrs).So after only 15mins we were five left: four belgians and Robert, who was explaining us all about how everything worked. Now, that was nice of him, as some of us had never played any casino games. We decided to put a maximum spending of 20 USD on the table and try to play with that during the whole 3,5 hours we had in Atlantic City. Awesome thing about US casino's: you get free drinks (with alcohol!) as long as you're playing. They do this in order to keep you inside and spend more money. Another  remarkable fact: casino's spread fresh O2 in the air so that you stay awake longer and can keep on gambling for a longer time (and thus spend more money). Another one: the chairs for the slot machines only turn to the right -for you to get off easily-. I am convinced that this is because, when you turn right to get off, you see the 'slot' one more time before leaving, and might decide to 'gamble one more time'. Next: on the machines is stated that 'minimum input is 5 USD', well that's not true. We put in a one dollar bill and it worked. But there are actual One Dollar slots as well (and if you bet for one cent every time, you can play 100 games!) Last fun-to-know-fact: once you're inside a casino, you will not see any daylight, in matter of fact, the exits are almost invisible so that you can not get out easily (and spend more while inside).

So I started off with putting five dollar in a slot machine, and after, let's say 10 hits, I won. Yes ladies and gentlemen, I won. Hupsa 57,5 USD in the pocket! Look how glad I was! After some more playing, and having one or two free cocktails each, we decided to head for another casino. Ceasar's Palace was yet to be conquered. And Yes, after playing Blackjack here only once, I won another 10 dollars! Like A Boss! Next up was playing Roullete. Unfortunately I lost my ten dollars there and after another free beer, we went for dinner.  Not just a dinner no.... We went to a real jungle restaurant! The five of us, four Belgians and an American, went to the Rainforest Cafe. Do believe me, that is one crazy experience! Plants and trees (fake of course) everywhere, moving gorilla's elephants and even a crocodile in the water,... and every half an hour all hell breakes loose and thunder and lightning strike the sky!

Back on the bus and back to Point Pleasant Beach for the next days of International Workshop: The Business Game!
