Week 3: Rennes continues

After two nice weeks in Rennes and about, including visits to cities, circus, parties and some school, the things were getting more serious, as serious as they can get on an Erasmus! Ha! We, the delegation from KHLeuven, had some major course issues due to a failure of our home institution, but who doesn't make mistakes, right?

So after a second saterday of classes (already getting sick of those - check the video) we had a great idea. Well... I had a great idea. 'Le Grand Tour de la Rue de la Soif'. I think I already told you about this famous Street, similar to Oude Markt Leuven. But there's only about 15 bars here.

Yes, some of us even made shirts.

So the idea was to sit down in every bar, with a whole bunch of Erasmus students from all over the world (Belgium, Spain, Iceland, Argentina, Germany, Canada, The Netherlands, Ireland, etc.), and to have just one beer in every bar. The bars we did were: Memestra, Latino bar, Carnaby, L'aeternam, Le Barantic, Alex's tavern (with a partyplace above), Madison Avenue, St. Michel, Melting Pot, La Pailott and last but not least Sunset Bar. Those who thought that it was going to be impossible were proven wrong and let's say that this was one of the top-three experiences -parties as well as hanging out with Exchange Students- that I've had since I got here three weeks ago. And yes, there's enough to compare it too!
Vive la Belgique. Yes we won.

After bar number three, with in the middle of French Culture teacher.

This video pretty much explains how the mood was for all of us.

After this, rather expensive day out, I told myself to do keep low on expenses for the rest of the month, yes I know today is the 26th, but I guess you know what I mean. As I'm coming to the end of my first month in France, I've realised that I already knew a lot about France, but that there were a lot of things that I had no idea of either.
Just one more thing: France really is more expensive then Belgium. And I'm starting to realize why so many little towns and downtowns are in such a bad state (except for the French 'on s'en fou'-idea). We found a Lidl, the cheapest supermarket that's available in Belgium as well as in France (Carrefour = more expensive) and the prices were averagely 20% more expensive.
All the food and drinks are, mostly, more expensive here. Everything, except for the Baguette, wine and maybe some other products. (not cheese).

Enjoying the late summer sun in Parc Thabor, the day after Le Groun Tour together with other Erasmus.
