AA15 - Day 13: Chaotic Cairo

2 more days left. Only two days after two weeks flew by;.Still two days in this overvrowded, but still somewhere charming, maybe even romantic Chaotic Caïro. 22million people is not easy to handle. But in a way in all this chaos people seem to find there way. Getting to there jobs, family, pyramids etc., sometimes kissing, maybe even slightly hitting a car, van or taxi on the way there, but still... there's something about this mass cities, that makes me fall in love of each and everyone of them.
After a morning's drive, inclusive police escort and the Secret Service Officer with the M5 beneath his suit as a on-board security man, we arrived from Alexandria back to the Caroline Crillon Hotel in Caïro. A quick rest and lunch later, we were back on the bus. Our last visit in Caïro had come! I am pretty sure I was one of the few realizing, but after an intensive two-week trip together, it felt kind of sad to have this last ride together.

We went right to the old city centre, at the original heart of Caïro. Via our tour-guide-for-the-day, as Walid felt like he needed a sidekick,  we went to visit Coptic Caïro. Coptic Caïro is a almost-communtity within the city. I will not bore you with the details, check wikipedia for that, but it was very interesting to learn about Catholics, Muslims and even Jew (Yes, they did not all flee with Mozes) live closely together. It was too hot to really admire its beauty though. But the inner city was so beautiful and old-european style. Something like the small monasteries we have in Belgium.

After a, with +40C hitting is badly, short walk we settled down for a while. Everyone had the opportunity to walk through the neighboorhing Soeck and by some last souvenirs.

Our final destination was our guide's, Walid, appartment. In what at first looked like a lousy neighboorhood, the whole Intrepid Egypt group was invited to enjoy a dinner for the feast with his family! Five floors up was a beautiful appartment, with an amazing wife and two geargous little princesses, twins moreover. An amazing, typical Egyptian, homemade dinner later, we couldn't thank Walid better, and more honest, than a standing ovation, thanking him for all he did for us in these two weeks of travelling. It must take some guts to organize all this and handle every single issue, believe me I know, so one last time Walid: Shukran Habbibi!

_safe travels!
