During my mom's visit to Coventry, we also headed out to William Shakespeare's hometown. A mere 30mins. busride brought us to Stratford-upon-Avon, which literally means "Street over the (river) Avon".
Although being a small little town in the West-Midlands, Stratford is always very busy and has been visited by millions of people over the last couple of hundred years, only to visit the famous writer and poet's hometown. His birthhouse and grave, along with a lot of other 'interesting' artefacts and locations can be visited around the city.
When we visited the city, the weather was magnificent, bright blue skies and a light wind. Perfect for a day out. Mind for yourself but if it rains, this would be a terrible day out. Via the touristical website, all you need to know can be found. I would really recommend a boatttrip on the river, where the guide tells you all about the city and its most famous inhabitant. Secondly, purchasing the "Visit All" ticket might seem expensive (around 13-15GPB per person) but if you decide on not going into the actual house and garden Shakespeare was born in now that your actually visiting the city, then you might as well not go to Stratford at all as, honestly, besides that nothing distinguishes this city from any other small rural town. Take a boatride on the Avon, worth the couple of pounds for sure! |
